On October 16th, 2024 at UIC’s Asian American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC), SAAPRI hosted an in-person, non-partisan discussion on election insights, candidate policy, and key voting deadlines. We discussed the latest news and key aspects of the upcoming election, including voting methods, candidate positions, and the issues that matter most to South Asian Americans. From immigration policies to economic impacts, healthcare, and civil rights, this was a chance to connect with other youth and have meaningful discussions on important matters. Whether one was curious about the candidates or looking to make their voice heard, this event was their opportunity to get involved in the 2024 Election.
This event was an answer to the question, “how can we encourage civil discussion?” Our online Speak Up, Step Up event concluded with this important question, and while we had a great conversation, we were excited to continue this dialogue in person and hear even more perspectives from our youth.
As a non-partisan organization, SAAPRI believes that real change happens when we create spaces for civil discussions. It’s essential to foster respectful conversations that bring diverse viewpoints together, where everyone feels comfortable sharing their opinions, and where we can work collectively to make a positive impact on society.
We want to hear from YOU—especially in the context of the upcoming, highly politicized election. How can we encourage civil discussion among youth? What can we do to promote a space for dialogue?
