On October 21st, 2021, SAAPRI’s Executive Director Shobhana Verma took part in a virtual conversation regarding voting. South Asian Americans are one of the fastest-growing populations of eligible voters out of the major racial and ethnic groups in the country. We need to take advantage of our population growth and translate that into political strength by expanding the electorate and getting our communities engaged in the electoral process.
Shobhana was joined by leaders from Inspiring South Asian American Women (ISAAW), League of Women Voters of New Jersey, Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF), who all emphasized the importance of making our voices heard on issues we care about. Topics that were covered included general election voting information, how to cast a ballot in the General Election, making a plan to vote in the General Election, early voting and election information, registering to vote, voting by mail, and election day voting.
