On June 24th, SAAPRI ED Shobhana Verma took part as a keynote speaker in a virtual event sponsored by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and Asian American Advisory Council Institute celebrating the 8th Annual Asian American Advisory Council Institute Day: “Collaboration and Unity: Moving Forward with Resiliency.” The day consisted of a full slate of workshops that covered important topics facing the Asian American community and our youth in care, including cultural factors pertaining to domestic violence in Asian American families; addressing the behavioral health needs of youth in care; preventing and responding to anti-Asian hate; and bullying and addressing substance use in the AAPI community.
