On January 26th, 2018, SAAPRI held a voter registration drive at the Muslim Community Center in Albany Park. The Jummah prayer brings a large crowd of worshippers to the mosque and community center around lunchtime on Friday afternoons. Alongside the Compassionate Care Network, Inc. (CCN) – a community health center offering health exams and consultations – and a visit from Cook County Board President, Toni Preckwinkle, SAAPRI team members registered 12 new voters! The Illinois primary is scheduled for March 20th, and South Asian Americans constitute the margin of victory in many state and congressional districts in Chicago and the suburbs, and our participation in the upcoming elections is vital.
Thank you to all those who attended our event!
