South Asian Americans make up one of the largest immigrant groups in the Chicago area. Our community includes both people who integrate successfully and people who suffer unfair prejudice, disparities, and backlogs. Ultimately, virtually all South Asian Americans are affected by today’s broken immigration system.
Because of these challenges, SAAPRI advocated for comprehensive immigration reform in solidarity with the National Coalition of South Asian Organizations (NCSO), a coalition of 41 groups convened by South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT).

In the past, SAAPRI has co-hosted a panel discussion on the impact of immigration reform on South Asian Americans, conveyed the unique needs of our community to legislators, and spoken to media about the importance of reform. SAAPRI also conducts ongoing work to strengthen immigrant integration, such as advising the City of Chicago’s Office of New Americans. SAAPRI thanks the North American South Asian Bar Association Foundation for its support of SAAPRI’s work on immigration reform and immigrant integration.
